Introduction
The Grape Soda Wallet is a compact, functional bi-fold wallet worked in dense single crochet for structure and durability. Designed in Caron All Day Cotton in the color Grape Popsicle, it features two interior card pockets and a full-length bill pocket, all worked seamlessly in one piece. The wallet folds neatly in half and closes with a magnetic clasp for a simple, polished finish. The pattern is flexible and measurement-based, allowing makers to adapt it to their own tension or yarn while maintaining the intended size and structure.
Pattern Description
The wallet is worked flat from end to end, beginning with the main body panel. Card pockets are created by chaining onto the edges of the panel and working across both the new chains and the existing stitches. A short middle section separates the two pockets and forms the interior fold. Once the full piece is complete, it is folded to create the bill pocket and seamed along both short sides. The magnetic clasp is sewn on last to secure the closure. The finished wallet is compact, durable, and sized to hold standard currency and cards comfortably.

Gauge
4 in × 4 in square in single crochet =
18 stitches and 21 rows
using a 3.75 mm hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge ensures the wallet folds correctly and pockets align. Adjust hook size as needed.
Pattern Notes
- The wallet is constructed in one long piece and folded to create the bill pocket.
- Pocket height is based on measurement, not row count.
At gauge, 2.25 in is approximately 11 rows of 32 sc, but row counts may vary. - Stitch counts per row should remain consistent even if row totals differ.
- When folded, the long bottom edge becomes the fold and the long top edge remains open for the bill pocket.
- The wallet is seamed along both short sides.
- Makers may orient the wallet differently if desired, but construction always results in two seamed edges.
Pattern Instructions
Wallet Body
Foundation:
Ch 17.
Row 1:
Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (16 sc)
Row 2:
Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), turn.
Sc in each st across. (16 sc)
Rep Row 2 until the piece measures 6.75 in long and 3.5 in wide.
First Pocket
At the end of your current row:
Pocket Foundation:
Ch 17.
Pocket Row 1:
Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and across the 17 chains, then continue across the existing 16 sts. (32 sc)
Pocket Row 2:
Ch 1, turn.
Sc across. (32 sc)
Rep Pocket Row 2 until the pocket measures 2.25 in tall.
Approximately 11 rows at gauge.
Total project length should now be 9 in.
Middle Section Between Pockets
Next Row:
Ch 1, turn.
Sc in the first 16 sts only, leaving the remaining 16 sts unworked. (16 sc)
This completes the first pocket.
Work 12 more rows of 16 sc.
Total length should now be 11.25 in.
Second Pocket
At the end of your current row:
Pocket Foundation:
Ch 17.
Pocket Row 1:
Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and across the 17 chains, then continue across the existing 16 sts. (32 sc)
Pocket Row 2:
Ch 1, turn.
Sc across. (32 sc)
Rep Pocket Row 2 until the pocket measures 2.25 in tall.
Approximately 11 rows at gauge.
Before sewing, the full piece should measure 13.5 in long.
Pockets do not need to be on the same side for the wallet to function.
Finishing
Fold the wallet so the long bottom edge becomes the fold and the long top edge remains open for the bill pocket.
Seam both short sides using a yarn needle or single crochet, securing the bottoms and open sides of each card pocket as you work.
Attach the magnetic clasp using sewing thread and a sewing needle.
Weave in all ends.
