The Solomon’s Knot Doily

An elegant, heirloom-quality lace doily that transitions from a solid, stable center into airy, lightweight Solomon’s knot mesh, finished with a beautiful scalloped shell border.

  • Yarn: 1 skein Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (White)
  • Hook: 5.0 mm crochet hook
  • Tools: Scissors, tapestry needle, stitch marker

Pattern Instructions

Round 1: In MC, ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc), work 7 more hdc into ring. Tighten to close, sl st to close. (8)

Round 2: ch 2, hdc into same st, work 2 hdc into each round, sl st into top of ch 2. (16)

Round 3: ch 2, hdc into same st, work 1 hdc into next st, 2 hdc into next st, hdc into next. Repeat around, sl st to close. (24)

Round 4: ch 2, hdc into same st, work hdc into next 2 st, 2 hdc into next st, hdc into next 2. Repeat around, sl st to close. (32)

Round 5: ch 2, hdc into same st, work hdc into next 3 st, 2 hdc into next st, hdc into next 3. Repeat around, sl st to close. (40)

Round 12: ch 1 (not a st), sc back into st, sk, skip 2 stitches, sc into next, sk, skip 2 st, sc into next. Repeat around. Do half sk and dc into starting sc of the row. Place stitch marker.

Round 13: ch 3 and half sk, sc anchor into center sc of sk below, sk, sc anchor into center sc of sk below. Repeat around. Do half sk and dc into top of dc in row below. Move stitch marker into the top of the dc.

Rounds 14–16: ch 3, half sk and anchor with sc into the top of ch 3 below, sk and anchor around. Do half sk / dc into the top of dc below. Place stitch marker into the top of the dc.

Round 17: ch 4, half sk and anchor with sc into the top of ch 3 below, sk and anchor around. Do half sk / tr into the top of dc below. Place stitch marker into the top of the tr.

Round 18: ch 4, half sk and anchor with sc into the top of ch 4 below, sk and anchor around. Do half sk / tr into the top of tr below. Place stitch marker.
